I might have been a bit slow to the social media. I never had a MySpace and I jumped on Facebook with almost no knowledge of what it was. Of course like the rest of the world, I became hooked. In time I started hating (and still do) Facebook due to all the game requests and complete disinterest with those I am “friends” with. Twitter is my application of choice and I like to refer to this as “the red carpet of social media”. I have yet to receive a stupid Farmville request via Twitter.

One of the best things to happen to me when I first joined Facebook was a little contest created by social maverick John Wyatt Edgar. He created a contest called Dubpoints that granted points to anyone that had any interaction with him. It could be hanging out with him at his apartment or a simple “hello” on the Internet. The point system was never shown to the public (at least to my knowledge) but yet it was wholesome fun. The winner received some type of trophy or award.

Edgar and I never really had a friendship in high school. We both shared a mutual loathing of Justin Benline and a mutual friendship from crazy-ass Riley Wedge. I might have been social with him on a few occasions. The Dubpoints intrigued me and I became rather good “Facebook Friends” with Edgar. His ability to promote this contest was a bit genius. He held a few Dubpoint contests and even made a grand tournament.

The tournament allowed me to do mostly smear campaigns against my opponents. This was a huge success until I might have been a little too easy in the later rounds.

I was very enthused to see that Edgar announced DUBPOINTS IX. Much like the WrestleMania holding the same Roman numeral, this should be the best Dubpoints yet. Many of my close friends are joined into competition and I look forward to the idea of working my #2 seed into the finals.

It will be lots of hard work but I believe I can hang with the big boys and get all the DUBPOINTS that are up for grabs.
